 Frequently Asked Questions
Question: I've emailed you and not had a reply. Why?
Answer: If you contact us but do not receive a reply, your Internet Service Provider or an email filtering program may be blocking email from HivMix.com. Please check your email settings or contact your Internet Service Provider for assistance.

Question: Why and who set this up?
Answer: Some persons affected with hiv realized that people in their surroundings were looking to talk to someone who is hiv+ as it isn't always easy to ask questions to the seropositive person you know. The same persons were also looking for people in the same position, so for example an hiv- partner of an hiv+ would like to talk to another hiv- partner. They also noticed that other seropositives are looking to discuss or date with other seropositives.

Question: What about fakers?
Answer: The internet is a super medium because you can be who you want to be. This site however is not the place to play around, out of respect for seropositives and their family&friendsm. Complaints about profiles can easily be sent to us by clicking or by mail to admin AT hivmix DOT com (or click the contact link at the bottom of this page). Several complaints result in deleting a profile. We can block someone permanently so that they can no longer subscribe.

Question: How should I protect my privacy?
Answer: As with any chat, dating and profile website, do not reveal personal information or contact details until you feel comfortable and are ready. Do not include personal information in your profile. Communicate with a HivMixer through the HivMix chat, tell your email address as a last option. Do not feel pressured into giving out contact details such as email address or phone number. And never ever give credit card details.

Question: How is my identity protected?
Answer: Any information you provide when joining is strictly confidential and is only used in the set up of your account, and the creation of your profile. HivMix.com would never under any circumstance reveal information or pass on details to any third party. Please read the Privacy statement for full details.

Question: What happens if I receive unwanted or abusive messages?
Answer: Contact us immediately - you can press the icon - and we will deal with this issue. We take the inappropriate use of our site very seriously and are committed to protecting members. Any member who infringes site rules will be banned from the site. See full details in our Terms & Conditions.

Question: I have not received my password, when will it arrive?
Answer: Passwords are issued within minutes of registering on the site. If you are a Hotmail or Yahoo user and you've not received your password, it's likely that the email containg your password has gone directly into your spam/junk/unwanted email folder. Please look there before contacting us. If this is the case, consider changing your spam settings (eg add us to your contacts) on these accounts otherwise all emails from HivMix.com will go into your spam folder.

Question: Do I see all HivMixers?
Answer: Yes you do. Even if you logged in in a different language, you will still see the other users.

Question: I invited someone to chat but it doesn't work
Answer:

You can invite someone to chat by pressing "Private chat". This person needs to be online to reply immediately, else he/she will get the message when coming online.

Question: I have received a confirmation mail but still can't get in
Answer: Did you click the link in the mail to activate your account? If not you will get a message "waiting administrator approval..".

We do this because we don't want anyone to subscribe with your email address. Only when you confirm we are sure it is you and not someone abusing your email address..

Question: I can't see when someone is contacting me
Answer: You should either remove your pop up blocker or add www.hivmix.com to your list of accepted sites. In Internet Explorer 6: Tools > Pop Up blocker > Settings > [add www.hivmix.com] > Add > Close

Question: Do I see all Blogs?
Answer: You see the blogs of the language you have selected. If you would like to see the other blogs, select the language in the dropdown.

Question: I get a message from someone but can't reply
Answer: It is possible that the user has blocked your profile or that he/she does not want to use the HivMix profile for the time being.

Sometimes someone blocks someone else by accident. If you think this is the case, contact us by clicking the "Contact" link in the menu

Question: A photo or blog is offensive, what should I do?
Answer: Next to each profile, blog and photo you can see the icon . Click on it and tell us why you believe this content should be removed. We will act on it as soon as possible.

Question: I would like to talk to a professional
Answer: At the page "My HivMixer" you can see profiles of professional organisations. Just send them a message as you would to another HivMixer if you would like eg verify certain info with a pro.

Question: How can I delete my account?
Answer: Log in, go to "My HivMix" > "My preferences" and click "Delete my profile". All info will be deleted, including pictures.

Answer: Click "My HivMixer", then click "Edit my profile" and you will see a page with all info of your profile, including a Browse button where you can upload a picture.

Question: I don't appear online
Answer: On the "Online" page, you only see others appearing online, but rest assured: you are visible to others if you have put yourself "Online". To make sure, click on "Who's online" and the icon next to it to see the options.

Question: I don't get the pop ups anymore
Answer: Indeed, the chat system changed for the better in June 2010 so we no longer use pop ups (that are blocked by most browsers). Now the chat is at the bottom of the website, click the icons on left and right to see the options.
